My momma once told me, "No matter where you are, you will always find your people."

And after moving to an island in East Africa where I barely knew anyone upon arrival, I can confirm she was right. But finding your people — those souls who reflect and align with your energy — isn’t about luck. It’s about alignment. It’s about knowing why you’re showing up and how. The secret lies not just in connection to yourself, but in the quiet power of intention — the seed from which all things grow.

Your Energy is Your Source

At the heart of it all, your energy — your truth, passion, and bliss — acts as a powerful magnet for what you attract in life. In quantum physics, the concept of vibrational frequency explains this: everything in the universe, including our thoughts and emotions, emits a frequency. According to the Law of Vibration, similar frequencies are drawn to each other. When you are connected to yourself — living in alignment with your values and your authentic truth — you emit a clear, consistent vibrational signal. This signal calls forth people, opportunities, and experiences that reflect and reinforce your state of being.

But intention is the key that sharpens this signal. Your intention is the seed for the dream you wish to cultivate — the guiding thread beneath your choices and actions. Neuroscience reinforces this: the brain’s reticular activating system (RAS) filters the overwhelming amount of information we encounter each day, prioritizing what aligns with our internal focus and emotional state. When your intention is clear, your RAS works like a compass, highlighting people and opportunities that resonate with the essence of that intention. Life begins to flow — not by chance, but because you’ve set the current into motion.

Staying Rooted in Intention

The beauty of intention is that it offers you a way home — a touchstone when life pulls you off course. Challenges will come. Fear will rise. Doubt will cloud the path. But when you’re anchored in your why — the reason you stepped onto this path in the first place — you have a steady reflector to course-correct. Intention brings clarity to how you direct your energy. It shapes the way you show up in the world. When you're clear on your intention, you stop chasing. Instead, you become magnetic — the right people and experiences begin to meet you halfway.

The risk arises when you drift from this connection. Life’s noise — stress, comparison, overcommitment — can scatter your energy. When you lose sight of your why, your frequency shifts. Your RAS begins filtering for threats instead of opportunities, and you find yourself in relationships, jobs, and experiences that feel off-key. Without intention, your energy becomes reactive rather than creative. You start drifting instead of directing.

This is why tending to your inner connection is essential. Meditation, journaling, movement, creative expression — these practices strengthen your energetic integrity. They create space for you to listen to your intuition, reconnect with your values, and recalibrate your emotional and energetic state. When you are grounded in your truth, you naturally shift into a state of flow where synchronicities unfold, and the right people and opportunities appear with ease.

Transpersonal Psychology and the Power of Inner Connection
From a transpersonal psychology perspective, this connection to self is not just personal — it’s spiritual. Transpersonal psychology explores the human experience beyond the ego — the interconnected field of consciousness that unites all beings. When you are aligned with yourself, you tap into this greater field of intelligence. The universe begins to echo back your own knowing.

Carl Jung’s concept of individuation speaks to this process — the integration of the conscious and unconscious mind to create a unified, whole self. When you are aligned with your authentic self, you step into what Jung called the "true self" — a state where your internal compass is clear, and your path is guided by a deeper sense of purpose. Intention is the thread that holds this alignment together — the quiet directive that shapes how you walk through the world.

To live intentionally is to dance with the universe. When your heart and mind are aligned with your purpose, life unfolds not through force but through resonance. The right people show up. The right opportunities unfold. Challenges become invitations rather than obstacles.

Challenges Along the Way — And How to Overcome Them

This path isn’t without resistance. Even when you are anchored in intention, life will test your alignment. Challenges arise not to break you, but to refine you — to deepen your trust in yourself and your path.

1. Overwhelm and Stress: When life feels chaotic, simplify. Return to the practices that calm your nervous system — breathwork, grounding exercises, or time alone in nature.

2. Self-Doubt: When you question your path, reconnect with your intention. Reflect on your core values and the deeper purpose behind your choices.

3. Fear of Rejection: When you fear putting yourself out there, remember that alignment isn’t about pleasing everyone — it’s about attracting the right people who resonate with your truth.

4. Loss of Inspiration: When you feel creatively blocked, step away and create space. Inspiration often returns when you stop forcing and start listening.

The gift of intention is that it gives you a map back to yourself when the path becomes unclear. When you know why you’re showing up, you can adjust how you show up without losing the thread.

Living in Alignment: Practical Steps

To cultivate this connection to yourself and sustain it:

- Start your day with intention — through meditation, visualization, or affirmations.

- Journal regularly — to process emotions and clarify your thoughts.

- Engage in creative flow — art, music, writing — without judgment or agenda. Here's a 20 minute Yoga Quickie, to spark the connection.

- Set energetic boundaries — protect your space and choose relationships that align with your values.

- Practice gratitude — it shifts your emotional state and raises your vibrational frequency.

- Reconnect with nature — the earth’s rhythm has a way of resetting your energy.

Finding Your People Through Alignment

When you are aligned with your truth and your intention is clear, you become magnetic. Your energy becomes a beacon, drawing others who resonate with your frequency. The people you meet become mirrors of your inner state — reinforcing your values, supporting your growth, and expanding your sense of possibility. The key is not to seek these people out, but to become so deeply connected to yourself that you create a gravitational pull for those who truly see and align with you.

That’s why my momma was right. You will always find your people — not by searching, but by becoming so rooted in your truth that you call them in without effort. Your intention becomes the compass; your energy becomes the signal. And when you walk in alignment with both, the right people and experiences can’t help but find you.
