Huhu Honey Bunnies, Katzi here about to get real about something that's actually made a difference in my life (and no, it’s not how my recent AI dating post went viral). It's called Shilajit, and if you haven't heard of it, prepare to have your chakras aligned… or at least your to-do list conquered.
For those of you who don't know me, my life is what you'd call a 'controlled chaos.' I juggle teaching on average 20 classes a week (yoga, pilates, breathwork), DJing, filming for YouTube, maintaining (or trying) a social life, studying German, and staying healthy. Basically, my schedule is my anchor into my routine and also what feeds my bank account. So, when I say I need energy, focus, and a creative spark, I'm not kidding. And I know I’m not the only one juggling heaps during the week.
Enter Shilajit. For the past two months, I've been dropping fulvic acid (Shilajit) and honestly? I'm not sure how I survived without it before."
What is Shilajit? Is it the sh*t?
If you’ve seen it, we could probably agree on that it doesn’t look appealing. It’s a dark gooey tar looking substance. Yet shilajit isn't some trendy new lab creation – it's a L-E-G-I-T ancient substance that oozes out of rocks in the Himalayas (yes, oozes. Picture it). It's basically decomposed plant matter mixed with rock, aged to perfection. The important thing is it's chock-full of fulvic acid, minerals, and other good stuff that your body probably isn't getting enough of.
My Shilajit Experiment:
I’ve always been keen on lil life hacks to maintain a healthy lifestyle amidst an intense life. So, I ordered Natural Shilajit Nutri Honey Sticks.
Here's what I've noticed in the past two months (and remember, I’m not a doctor, so take this with a grain of Himalayan pink salt):
Immunity That Actually Works: I see over 200 people a week in my classes, and my work depends on me showing up, fully ON and active. I essentially can’t afford to get sick. Since starting Shilajit? Nada. I’m basically a fortress. In fact I’m usually asked, how do I manage to do so much?!?
Hectic Schedule? Bring It On: My energy levels have been… dare I say… stable? I can actually get through a day of teaching 5 classes, admin, attending German school, social life, and time for reflection without six cups of coffee (ok, but maybe I’ve had 2).
Mega Vitality (Without the Weird Side Effects): This isn’t some fleeting, jittery energy. It’s like my batteries are finally fully charged. And thankfully, no weird heart palpitations or existential crises.
Clarity in the Mind : Okay, I still have a hard time remembering every new German vocabulary word and the grammar, but overall, my brain feels sharp, inspired, and fresh.
Am I magically enlightened now? No. Am I still occasionally tempted to hide under my blanket and binge-watch comedy? Absolutely. But I’m finding it easier to handle whatever life throws my way. Bring it on lemons, I'm ready to squeeze you in my shilajit tonic.
The Real Talk: Benefits, Risks, and Side Effects (No Sugarcoating)
While I’m over here singing Shilajit’s praises, it’s important to be real about potential risks and side effects.
Potential Benefits (Based on Research): Energy boost, cognitive support, immune system support, antioxidant power, reduces stress and anxiety, digestive balance, sharp focus, and feeling INCRYOABLE.
Potential Risks (Based on the Internet and Common Sense): Upset stomach (if you take too much, you truly only need a pea size), potential interactions with medications (talk to your doctor!), and sourcing from shady suppliers (don't be that person).
May Lower Blood Pressure:
Shilajit may have a blood-pressure-lowering effect.
Individuals with low blood pressure or those taking blood pressure medications should use caution and monitor their blood pressure regularly.
May Affect Blood Sugar:
Some research suggests Shilajit could impact blood sugar levels.
People with diabetes or those taking medications to control blood sugar should monitor their blood glucose levels closely when using Shilajit.
Iron Overload:
Shilajit contains iron.
People with hemochromatosis (a condition where the body absorbs too much iron) should avoid Shilajit as it could exacerbate their condition.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
There is insufficient research to determine the safety of Shilajit during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is generally advised to avoid use during these times.
Autoimmune Diseases:
There is some theoretical concern that Shilajit could overstimulate the immune system.
Individuals with autoimmune diseases (like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis) should exercise caution and discuss Shilajit with their doctor first.
Kidney Issues:
There’s a theoretical concern that high mineral content might stress the kidneys in individuals with pre-existing kidney conditions.
People with kidney disease should consult their doctor before using Shilajit.
Interactions with Medications:
Shilajit may interact with certain medications (blood thinners, immunosuppressants, etc.).
It's crucial to discuss Shilajit with a doctor if you're taking any medications.
Counterfeit Products:
Due to Shilajit's rising popularity, there are many counterfeit products on the market. These may contain low-quality ingredients or even harmful substances.
Emphasize the importance of buying from reputable sources to avoid counterfeit products.
I always buy from: Natural Shilajit
The Golden Rule: Always, always consult with a healthcare professional before trying Shilajit, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any underlying health conditions. I might be intuitive and feel super charged from shilajit, but I am not a doctor.
How I Use It: Recipes and Rituals (Because I'm Extra)
It’s nearly impossible to take it straight up unless you're a baddieeee! However I don’t mind the earthy taste when dissolved in warm water for a super charging tea. However if you're not a fan of the earthy taste, here are a few ways to sneak it into your routine:
The Lazy Kitty Method: Dissolve a pea-sized amount in warm water or tea (honey optional, but highly recommended). What’s great about Natural Shilajit is they already have shilajit pre-mixed with honey in a tube. I also love adding a shot of turmeric and ginger to give a lil kick. This was my go-to during festival season to give that lil kick after not sleeping so well, or shall I rephrase after dancing too well.
The "I'm Feeling Fancy" Smoothie: Blend Shilajit with frozen berries, banana, almond milk, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Instant superfood boost.
The Ayurvedic Elixir: Mix Shilajit with warm milk, honey, and a pinch of cardamom. Sip while contemplating the meaning of life (optional).
Conclusion: A Qualified Recommendation (With a Wink)
So now we know, It's not a magic bullet, and it's definitely not for everyone. But, if you’re looking for a natural way to boost your energy, immunity, and overall well-being (and you’re willing to do your research and talk to your doctor first), Shilajit might just be worth a try.
If you're curious, you can find the Natural Shilajit I use right here . And if
you try it, let me know what you think! I'm always up for swapping wellness hacks.
Remember to keep expectations realistic and always take it slow.
Namaste.
